At Bethel, part of our mission is to proclaim the gospel of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. This is accomplished in part by supporting and encouraging missionaries who serve the Lord at home and abroad.
The role of the Ladies Missionary Committee at Bethel is two-fold. Firstly, to serve as a liaison between our missionaries, local and abroad, and the Assembly with regards to their prayer requests and practical needs. Secondly, to organize and facilitate mission projects, work bees, and collection drives for various causes and missionary needs. To learn how you can get involved, please see Cheryl Peake.

Dave and Joyce Kinsey
Organization: AWANA Clubs Canada
After serving in a volunteer role with Awana in Western New York, Dave and Joyce moved to Canada to begin full-time ministry in Northern and Eastern Ontario, and for a time the Province of Quebec. Their service included introducing the Awana ministry to interested churches, training leaders, and organizing special events for both leaders and clubbers. Dave and Joyce began attending Bethel Gospel Chapel after moving to Powassan in 1989. They retired in the fall of 2023 but continue to work in Awana at Bethel. They have four grown children who are scattered across Western Canada and Asia.

Jeremy & Tanya Lott
Field of Service: Papua New Guinea
Mission Organization: Wycliffe Bible Translators
Ministry: Jeremy works as an auto-mechanic on a mission centre in PNG. He along with the PNG national apprentices work predominantly on vehicles that belong to missionaries working in PNG to further Bible translation. Their work also includes maintaining Ukarumpa’s medical and security vehicles, generators, and lawn mowers (for air strips).
Tanya currently is a homemaker/mom, but will likely start working part time when their youngest starts school in July 2013. There are many opportunities for her, as she is already facing many pleas for help! She helps out where she can, as she is able.

Pearl Winterburn

The biography of her life is entitled, In the Heart of a Pearl there is always some Grit, and for those of us who knew her, a better summary could not be conceived!
In the early 1950s, Pearl Winterburn was walking from her apartment in the east end of North Bay to her job as a nurse at St Joseph’s General Hospital on Algonquin Ave. As she passed Bethel’s old building (corner of Fisher and McIntyre), Sidney Hoffman met her and invited her back.
And that was the genesis of Pearl’s long relationship with Bethel.
She studied midwifery at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and travelled to Belgium for the purpose of learning French. But her ultimate destination was in the heart of the African continent: the Belgian Congo.
Pearl was to spend more than 5 decades as a medical missionary founding a hospital, a school, a local church, and having the local men create an airstrip on which – much to their shock and surprise –
Missionary Aviation Aircraft began to land.
She once calculated that she had overseen the delivery of 5000 babies in the Congo.
Bethel supported her financially, with advice and with prayer, from the beginning and throughout her missionary endeavour.
A broken hip required her to leave Africa, returning to North Bay to convalesce. She died in April 2014. We’re certain of the commendation she received from her Master: well done, good and faithful servant!
To honour Pearl, Bethel established this fund in 2016 to educate future church leaders in the Republic of Congo by funding their education. These men and their families commit to serve in local churches for 2 years for every year of education they receive with our help. Our total obligation has been $10,000 annually.
